My mother was very good to me. I mean, I saw the Beatles when they came to Maryland when I was 12 or 13. I have always gone to concerts.... the Beatles, the Beachboys whoever came to town! And my mother was so- she knew that I wouldn’t miss school. I would say, “Mom, I’ve got to get down to the Civic Center. They open at 9:00.” And I would get the money from babysitting my friend, and I’m buying tickets for The Beatles or I’m buying tickets for this.
My mother would write a note and say Melanie had a dentist appointment that’s why she’s late for school. So I would leave home, take the bus downtown, buy the tickets for the concert, show up at school late with the tickets in my backpack or whatever, and I would take the note into the office. Because I wouldn’t be there right at 8:00, I’d get there maybe at 9:30 or 10:00. And so I’d walk from the bus stop to there. So I’ve always gone to concerts.
