DR. NATE: ...but for me, I think that there's still a lot of people who see me for something differently because of those identities. Until they get to know me do they actually say, ‘oh you’re so much more than those things.’ Yes, I am a sum of all those parts, but each of those parts don’t individually define me as a person. I’m not just Gay, I’m not just Latinx, I’m not just a professor, I am all these different things. I think the holistic view of who I am, people don’t get to see that until they interact with me on a regular basis. Which is why I think I have such a great relationship with my students because we’re together so often that they do get to see that part of me and I get to see that part of them. Which is why I think teaching is so important.
